Bulgarian contemporary jewellery artist – Simeon Shomov

Contemporary jewellery artist Simeon Shomov (Bulgaria) is a great narrator who captures the elements of his narrative in silver and turns them into miniature scenes. The artist tries to escape the standardisation to which artists and art schools are subjected. Simeon Shomov has a bachelor’s degree in computer science, but his passion for design has resulted in a degree in a jewellery art. He believes that art should be full of errors and expression. There are many ways to create something personal and different without following or creating a standard. Simeon creates stories and fairy tales; jewellery is just a way to call them. Jewellery stories are inspired by nature, love, man and space. “I hope people will recognise part of their soul or a story hidden in my jewellery.” The artist’s jewellery always has a very illustrative meaning. Each piece of jewellery is like a small story about something worldly, and it can be hung on a chain as a pendant and carried with you. Mainly working with silver, the artist uses the plastic quality of this precious metal to create textures, patterns, layers and play with symbolic figures. Jewellery is complemented by oxidation or polishing, which adds depth and tone. Gemstones, gold, pearls, enamel are added as splashes of colour to enhance the story being told.
